Amazon Business reaches new milestone
Amazon has announced that Amazon Business achieved an annualized gross merchandise volume of 60 billion USD in the second quarter. More than 11 million companies worldwide now use the platform to optimize their procurement processes.
The customer base ranges from schools and hospitals to industrial companies and hotels. Since its launch in the USA in 2015, Amazon Business has been represented in eleven countries. As the company states, in addition to hundreds of thousands of small businesses, 38 of the DAX 40 companies are also among its customers. In the first half of 2026, more than 1.8 million new companies were added.
Why is Amazon Business growing?
Companies are increasingly looking for procurement solutions that combine the convenience of private online shopping with the requirements of B2B business. To this end, Amazon Business combines a broad product range, flexible delivery options, as well as functions for spend control and analysis.
“With a broad assortment, competitive prices, and fast delivery, Amazon Business is a reliable partner for companies of every size", says Bruno Pauze, Country Manager Germany at Amazon Business. “The pressure to operate cost-efficiently is growing steadily - that is why we are continuously creating new opportunities for process and cost optimization. This enables companies to invest freed-up resources directly in their growth."
What role do AI-supported tools play?
Amazon Business is expanding its offering with several AI-supported features. The Amazon Business Assistant answers questions about account management in real time and creates personalized product recommendations based on previous purchases.
With Savings Insights, the platform analyzes spending behavior and suggests savings opportunities such as volume discounts or automated repeat orders. Spend Anomaly Monitoring detects unusual orders and automatically informs teams in order to identify errors or budget overruns at an early stage.
Range grows significantly
Many companies consolidate their procurement in order to reduce the administrative effort for numerous suppliers. According to the company, Amazon Business offers access to hundreds of millions of products.
The range grew by almost 30 % compared with the previous year. The offering of repair tools and office furniture increased particularly strongly, according to the statement.
How are companies supposed to reduce costs?
According to Amazon, companies worldwide were able to save more than 1 billion USD last year through exclusive business customer prices and volume discounts. In addition, purchasing models such as Subscribe & Save as well as the Amazon Basics private label are available.
Prime Business is also intended to contribute to reducing costs. Worldwide, members of the program saved around 880 million USD in shipping costs last year.
Last month, Amazon expanded the offering with Amazon Quick. Prime Business members thus receive discounted access to a personal AI assistant. Quick connects with existing tools and data, creates meeting plans, work results and dashboards, among other things, and operates on the basis of AWS enterprise security and governance, as the company explains.
